How to make pizza at home

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Optional toppings: sliced mushrooms, sliced onions, sliced peppers, cooked sausage, pepperoni, sliced olives

Preparation:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes, until the mixture becomes foamy.
  2. Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the bowl. Mix until the dough comes together.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 5-10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp towel. Let rise for 1 hour, until the dough has doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  7. Place the rolled-out dough on a greased pizza pan or baking sheet.
  8. Spread the tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edge.
  9. Add the shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce.
  10. Add any desired toppings on top of the cheese.
  11. Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
