Savory Potato and Cheese Stuffed Flatbread with a Honey Dip

Ingredients:

  • 90g strong (bread) flour
  • 55g milk
  • 10g unsalted butter, melted, plus extra for pan-frying
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 potato
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • Mozzarella cheese, to taste
  • Honey for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the strong flour, milk, 10g melted unsalted butter, and a pinch of salt. Mix the ingredients until they form a lump.
  • Knead the dough by hand for approximately 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Cover the dough with cling film and allow it to rest in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  1. Prepare the Potato Filling:
  • Peel and boil the potato until it is cooked through and easily pierced with a fork.
  • Once the potato is well-cooked, mash it in a bowl and mix it with 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise. Set it aside for later use.
  1. Shape and Fill the Flatbread:
  • After the dough has rested for an hour, remove it from the refrigerator and roll it into a flat, round shape with a diameter of about 22cm.
  • Evenly sprinkle a layer of mozzarella cheese over half of the dough.
  • Spread the mashed potato mixture on top of the cheese.
  • Add another layer of mozzarella cheese on top of the potatoes.
  • Fold the other half of the dough over the filling, and pinch the edges to seal it well. Gently roll over the stuffed dough with a rolling pin to ensure even distribution of the filling.
  1. Cook the Stuffed Flatbread:
  • Preheat a frying pan over low heat and lightly coat it with butter.
  • Carefully place the stuffed flatbread in the pan and cook until the underside turns golden brown.
  • Apply melted butter to the top side of the flatbread, then flip it to cook the other side until it’s also golden brown.
  • Optionally, flip the bread once more to achieve a more even color and additional crispiness.
  1. Serve and Enjoy:
  • Prepare a side of honey for dipping.
  • Once the flatbread is cooked to your liking, remove it from the pan and slice it into manageable pieces.
  • Serve warm and enjoy the savory flavors of the potato and cheese, complemented by the sweet touch of honey.
